The Damned& The Broadcast

The television list. Shares the screen craft axis with film — cinematography, production design and score — but not the unit: a five-season drama is a different bet from a 90-minute original, which is why the two are separate lists.

Your taste, in one breath Dark, singular-vision genre television — damned protagonists, dread over spectacle, and atmosphere built physically. Same lane as the film list: religion and the occult as working machinery, which is where 30 Coins and Midnight Mass landed. One caution the film list doesn't carry — an unfinished series takes the ongoing deduction, so a show still airing has to earn its place on more than a strong first season.

30 Coins — Álex de la Iglesia (creator/dir.), Jorge Guerricaechevarría (wr.)
Occult horror · clergy as real actors
Season one. Axis-4 third-lobe evidence. A village priest with a past and one of the thirty pieces of silver. Doctrine, exorcism and Vatican politics as working machinery. Recorded as season one specifically — the later season is not part of the evidence.
Watched · s1 Axis-4 evidence
★
Midnight Mass — Mike Flanagan (creator/wr./dir.), Michael Fimognari (cin.), The Newton Brothers (score)
Religious horror · belief argued from every side
The strongest single data point behind axis 4's third lobe. A disgraced priest returns to a dying island parish with something in a trunk. The reason axis 4's wording requires belief taken seriously from more than one side — this argues it from every side, which is the clause Saint Maud only half-meets.
Watched Axis-4 evidence
★
The Haunting of Hill House — Mike Flanagan (creator/wr./dir.), Michael Fimognari (cin.), The Newton Brothers (score)
Family haunting · grief as the mechanism
Flanagan thread. Shirley Jackson by way of a family that cannot stop relitigating one night. The 'Two Storms' episode is the craft-axis exhibit — long takes, built sets, practical camera moves.
Watched
★
The Haunting of Bly Manor — Mike Flanagan (creator), James Flanagan (cin.), The Newton Brothers (score)
Gothic romance · haunting as memory loss
Flanagan thread. The Turn of the Screw, played warmer and sadder than Hill House. Widely read as the softest entry in the run — worth a note on whether the tonal shift cost it.
Watched
★
The Midnight Club — Mike Flanagan & Leah Fong (creators)
Hospice horror · stories told by the dying
Flanagan thread. Cancelled after one season. Terminally ill teenagers telling each other ghost stories. The one entry in the run that does not resolve — cancelled on a cliffhanger, which is a live axis-6 case on screen.
Watched Cancelled · unresolved
★
The Fall of the House of Usher — Mike Flanagan (creator/wr./dir.), Michael Fimognari (cin.), The Newton Brothers (score)
Poe · a bargain made and collected on
Flanagan thread. The most axis-2 of the run. Poe reassembled around a pharmaceutical dynasty paying off a deal none of them made. A damned-protagonist bargain in the Seven to Eternity shape, which makes it the closest of the Flanagan run to the comics profile.

Altered Carbon — Laeta Kalogridis (creator), from Richard K. Morgan
Cyberpunk noir · resleeving and personhood

Westworld — Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy (creators), Paul Cameron (cin.), Ramin Djawadi (score)
Consciousness · hosts becoming people
Season one only, as specified. Season one is the part with the reputation, and it is a self-contained arc. The show ran three more seasons and was cancelled unresolved — so this is a partial watch of an unfinished work, and axis 6 has nothing to say about it beyond that.

Severance — Dan Erickson (creator), Ben Stiller (dir.), Jessica Lee Gagné (cin.), Theodore Shapiro (score)
Split consciousness · personhood at work
Ongoing. The purest consciousness premise on this list. Two selves in one body who cannot meet. The production design is doing as much as the script — Gagné's symmetry and the Lumon interiors are the craft case. Ongoing, so axis 6's ending clause is unscoreable; the build is not.
Ongoing · ending unwritten
★
Black Mirror — Charlie Brooker (creator)
Anthology · technology and personhood
Ongoing anthology. An anthology is a different unit again — there is no arc to land, so axis 6 applies per episode or not at all. Useful mainly as a breadth signal for the consciousness thread rather than as a single verdict.
Ongoing anthology
★
Love, Death & Robots — Tim Miller & David Fincher (executive producers)
Anthology · animated SF, one style per episode
Ongoing anthology. Craft-axis breadth test. Every episode is a different animation studio and a different look, which makes this the single widest craft sample available anywhere in this collection. If any one segment is memorable for how it looked, that is worth a note — it is the closest screen has to the 'named artist' signal comics uses.
Ongoing anthology
★
Watchmen — Damon Lindelof (creator), Gregory Middleton (cin.), Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (score), from Moore & Gibbons
Sequel, not adaptation · American racial history
The 2019 HBO limited series. Complete. A sequel to the comic rather than a retelling, which under CORE rule 5 makes it the opposite of a redundancy case — it is the 'source carries something the screen didn't' clause running in reverse. Complete in nine episodes with a deliberate ending, so axis 6 is fully scoreable.

The Sandman — Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer & Allan Heinberg (developers), from Gaiman
Dark fantasy · a god with obligations
Complete at two seasons. Squarely in the dark-fantasy-with-a-god-problem lobe, and the comic is on no list here. Whether this landed says something about whether that lobe transfers to screen — currently the third lobe's screen evidence is all religious horror rather than mythic fantasy.
Watched
★
Invincible — Robert Kirkman (creator), from Kirkman, Cory Walker & Ryan Ottley
Deconstructed superhero · violence with consequences
Ongoing. The comic stays on the wishlist at T2 #33 — redundancy check cleared 2026-09-13. Raised as the Altered Carbon / Dark Matter / Bird Box pattern — a live wishlist entry whose story is arriving by another route — and cleared: comic and show diverge enough. The first negative result the redundancy check has ever returned, and the first time it has been run against a comics entry at all. See CORE.md rule 5.

Deadwood — David Milch (creator), HBO
Western · a camp becoming a town, profanely
The only western in this history. Complete, including the 2019 film. The weird-western lobe minus the weird: no supernatural, all moral rot and a world being built out of it. That makes it a clean test of whether the lane's draw is the genre furniture or the damnation — Butcher's Crossing is the prose version of the same question. Ran three seasons, cancelled, then finished properly by a 2019 film.

The Wire — David Simon & Ed Burns (creators), HBO
Institutional decay · everyone compromised
Stated unprompted as one of the reader's favourite series of all time. Five seasons, complete, deliberately structured — a season per institution, and an ending that refuses catharsis on purpose. Hits axis 1 (Simon's singular vision), axis 2 as hard as anything on any list here (there is no uncompromised character in it), axis 3 in the institutional register rather than the apocalyptic one, axis 5, and axis 6 emphatically. **It misses axis 4 completely** — no supernatural, no genre, no lobe. That combination is the finding: see evidence.md.

Dark — Baran bo Odar & Jantje Friese (creators), Nikolaus Summerer (cin.), Ben Frost (score)
Cerebral time-loop SF · a town and four families
Stated unprompted as loved. Three seasons, complete, and famous specifically for landing an ending that had to close a closed loop — the strongest axis-6 case in this whole history. Cerebral rather than religious, which puts it in the lane the film list currently has least of. Summerer's cold palette and Frost's score carry the dread; the craft axis is a clean hit on both instruments. **In German, and it did not stop it landing** — worth recording next to The Devil's Bath, since two of the strongest screen entries here are subtitled.
Watched Loved
★
The Boys — Eric Kripke (developer), from Garth Ennis & Darick Robertson
Deconstructed superhero · satire and gross-out
Watched to the end and really enjoyed. The live test of the Preacher decline — see evidence.md. **The live test of the Preacher decision, and nobody set it up as one.** Preacher was declined on 'the aggressive '90s shock/gross-out tone' — and The Boys is the same writer in the same register, watched anyway. Whether it landed is the question passed-on.md cannot currently answer about its own oldest entry. Ongoing, so read stays false. Note the register difference: this is satirical and comedic where the comics profile skews dread, which is axis 5's other edge.

The Walking Dead — Frank Darabont (developer), from Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore & Charlie Adlard
Post-apocalyptic horror · survival and moral erosion
First few seasons only — stopped watching. **A dropped watch is evidence and the collection has none of it yet.** Every other row here is something finished or still being followed; this is the only record of something abandoned, which is exactly what axis 6's 'build' clause is about — whether a serial keeps earning its place. Why it stopped is worth more than a rating. Third Kirkman title in this history after the Invincible show and two unread Kirkman comics on the wishlist.

Anime · time loop, machine consciousness
Anime. Same studio as Ghost in the Shell. An authored take on a franchise, in the consciousness lane rather than the action one — the questions are about what a machine is owed and whether the loop can be broken. **Production I.G animated it, the same studio as Ghost in the Shell (1995)**, which is already a CORE cross-medium anchor: that is a studio thread, not a coincidence, and it is the first one on record here.

3 Body Problem — David Benioff, D.B. Weiss & Alexander Woo (creators), from Cixin Liu
Hard SF · first contact, civilisational despair
Watched and liked. **Connects to the books shelf by an unexpected route:** Ken Liu, whose collection is on the shelf and who is a CORE cross-medium anchor, is the *translator* of the source novel — `creators.md` already flags him as 'also a major translator (Cixin Liu)'. The show restructures the book heavily rather than tracking it, so under CORE rule 5 the novel is not blocked by this; it is closer to neutral.

Archive 81 — Rebecca Sonnenshine (creator), from the podcast by Dan Powell & Marc Sollinger
Found footage · a cult, a ritual, a building
Watched and liked. An archivist restoring damaged tapes finds a cult conducting a working. **A fifth positive in the occult lane** — doctrine and ritual as actual machinery rather than atmosphere. Cancelled after one season on a cliffhanger, which is a real axis-6 miss on something that otherwise fits well.

★
American Primeval — Mark L. Smith (creator), Peter Berg (dir.)
Frontier western · 1857 Utah, brutal and unromantic
Watched and liked. **The third grounded-western data point after Deadwood and Prey**, and the most brutal. No supernatural at all — the lane's draw stripped back to moral rot and a violent frontier. Limited series, complete, so axis 6 is scoreable. Directly relevant to the axis-4 question in `evidence.md` finding 1: another western liked with the weird removed.

IT: Welcome to Derry — Andy & Barbara Muschietti, Jason Fuchs (creators), from Stephen King
Cosmic horror · a town that permits it
Season one watched and enjoyed. **The first Stephen King adaptation on record here, and it landed** — which matters because 'Salem's Lot is on the books wishlist at T2 #9 as the deliberately cheap first step into an unbounded thread. This is a prequel to IT rather than an adaptation of it, so it does not touch that book under rule 5; it does say the King register works on screen.

Good Night World — Studio NUT, from Uru Okabe's manga
Family drama inside an MMO · fractured identity
Watched. Recorded in his words as "ok" — the lowest verdict on record. **The most useful row in this batch, because it is the only negative-leaning screen verdict there is.** Every other watched title is liked, loved, enjoyed or a favourite, and a taste model built only on positives cannot locate an edge. Anime, digital-identity premise, in the middle of the cyberpunk lobe — so whatever did not work here is information about that lobe specifically. **A `reader_note` on this one is worth more than notes on three things that landed.**

The Beast in Me — Gabe Rotter (creator), Howard Gordon (showrunner), Lyle Vincent (cin., all eight episodes), Claire Danes, Matthew Rhys; Jodie Foster and Conan O'Brien exec. produce ✎ 1
Psychological thriller · a grieving writer and the neighbour she suspects
Watched and loved. The second screen reader's note on any list here. Aggie Wiggs, a blocked and grieving author, becomes fixated on the new neighbour who was the prime suspect in his wife's disappearance. Eight episodes, complete, all released at once. **Craft is a clear hit on this file's own terms**: Lyle Vincent shot all eight and has said he worked from Gordon Willis and Alan Pakula — '70s paranoid-thriller photography, a named cinematographer with a stated intent, which is exactly what `film.md` asks a craft score to cite. Axes 1, 2 and 5 land. **It misses axes 3 and 4 cleanly, and it was loved anyway.** Affluent contemporary Connecticut is not a decaying world, and a psychological thriller is none of the three named lobes. That makes it the third screen title scoring well below seven and landing at the top of the verdict scale, after The Wire and Halloween — and the first of the three with an actual note behind it. See `evidence.md` finding 1. **Axis 6 is a partial miss, volunteered unprompted**: the ending resolution is called “a bit cliche”. That makes this the first work on any list here **loved in spite of a named ending weakness** — Madi is the opposite case, where a thin back half cost it the verdict. A weak ending is a real deduction and not a veto. See `evidence.md`.

Premieres 2026-10-07. Tier one on the axis-4 third lobe and the strongest screen thread here. Flanagan's eight-episode reimagining, billed by Prime Video as deliberately not the familiar version. **Axis 4's third lobe is the argument**: Margaret White's faith is not villain wallpaper, it is the engine — sincerely held, doctrinally specific, and the direct cause of the damnation. That is the lane with the best evidence-per-title on this list. Axis 2 is a bullseye, axis 5 is unrelieved dread, and axis 1 holds despite four directors because Flanagan wrote all eight and runs it.
